Papillon    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Malnourished, Abused/Neglected, Fearful/Anxious

This guy was found running down the middle of a busy street. His fur was so matted and filthy that I couldn't see how skinny he was until after his baths, and he was so infested with fleas that the water turned red when it rinsed off his head from the dried blood from flea bites. He's been through hell, but he's still a sweet little dog. He's good with my big and small dogs and follows me every where I go. I have 3 birds that he is very well mannered with as well. He doesn't like hands reaching for him, but instead of bolting he backs away from you so he can still be nearby. He's got a microchip, but the chip is from a shelter in ... (Read More)Oklahoma and his owner didn't renew the chip. He is missing most of his teeth, so he will need to eat wet food mixed in with moistened kibble so he can properly chew his food. He sleeps in the bed with us at night and has wonderful indoor manners. He has lost most of his potty training since living on the lam for so long, but he has started noticing that our dogs go out to use the bathroom and I see him using outside more than he used to. He's very food motivated and will fall over himself to get to you if he sees you get hot dogs out of the fridge, so training him will be a snap. He does not like leashes, and even watching our dogs leash up for their walk does not help him calm down if a leash is snapped onto his collar. I'd love to keep this guy, but he needs much more companionship than I can give throughout the day. His ideal family will have no small kids and someone who is home a large part of the day. He's safe and happy right now, so I am going to be very picky about his forever home. His adoption will come with a guarantee from you that if you ever have to find him a new home, or he doesn't work out with your family, he is brought back to us. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Papillon in Arkansas
Papillon Dogs can make good pets in Arkansas if they match your IifestyIe. The Papillon is an elegant toy breed with large ears and a gracefully curved tail. Papillons are active, playful, and full of personality. Papillons do well with older children and cats with whom they are socialized, but can sometimes be combative with other dogs. Housebreaking a Papillon may require patience. Papillons love to play outside, and can be protective and territorial. This breed does best with a yard, but some Papillons adapt fine to urban apartment life.
