Papillon Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Send us an email requesting an application to start the adoption process-- adopt@almosthomenm.org Approximate DOB 07/01/2016 Size - Smaller medium History- Picked up as a stray, with a small female we named Nala, in a rural town and left unclaimed. When they ran out of time and the shelter ran out of space an urgent plea was sent out to rescue. We accepted them into our program and some wonderful volunteers transported them to us. It always amazes me the beautiful, sweet, loving dogs we get in.. Nala has since been adopted but happy, playful Simba is still looking for his happily ever after.. Temperament- Very playful, sweet, and ... (Read More)outgoing. He is also a wonderful little guard dog as he does have a very dominant personality. Energy Level- Mid level energy. Dogs/Cats- Good with other other dogs (however he can be dominant and pushy when it comes to attention so he might do best as an only dog that has play dates).. He seems fine with the cats. House trained- House trained and using a dog door Simba is very playful to the point of being a mouthy puppy.. He would do best in an active but structured home. He does get protective once he believes he is home so should have a crate for when strangers go over. Once he trusts someone after just a few minutes he does do much better and wants to be a best friend. He should attend some training as I really don't think whoever had them was very structured. But he is super smart and very motivated to learn for those he loves. He is a small fluffy guard dog who loves walks, watching tv, and playing. Due to his mouthiness we will not place him in a home with small children. Adoption fee $250 includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies vacc, collar and tags, training information, and all the support you need. Rescue Me ID: 17-11-04-00198Pumpkin (female)

Papillon    Age: Senior

Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Obese

Pumpkin is a sweet little dog that likes to lick you but doesn't like to be cuddled and is NOT a lap dog. However, she doesn't mind a belly rub while laying beside you, on her terms! She really likes her backside scratched, she loves the base of her tail scratched. She is very sensitive to human food, but is also a very picky dog food eater. She is obese due to her eating habits and lack of exercise. She plays with her food and makes big messes with it if you let her. We are unable to walk her. When taking her out to potty, in the yard, she won't go by herself. She insists that she must be accompanied when she's taken out. Yet, she ... (Read More)doesn't run about and play in the yard. The only time she goes out, is to potty, but she doesn't always potty outside. She is NOT an outside dog. She is terrified of the outdoors at night, due to an outdoor experience from her young life (thunder, lightning, and howling coyotes!). Yet, she keeps trying to escape out the front door during the day, to an unfenced yard, to investigate the neighborhood. She comes from a very quiet home. She doesn't react well to a lot of commotion or noise. She calms down to low, soft music. We love her, but our disabilities have overcome us and we can no longer care for her. Hoping to find her a similar environment to what she has now. But she needs a more dominant caretaker to control her behavior. Overall, Pumpkin is a good dog but with strong personality traits. Rescue Me ID: 17-10-12-00512**Draco (male)

Papillon Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Send us an email requesting an application to start the adoption process-- adopt@almosthomenm.org Approximate DOB 04/01/2016 Size - About 17 lbs History- It all started with just one Facebook post-- an angry young lady who found a bald sickly dog on the side of a road.. Another person saying yes that they would foster once we put it on our volunteer page (we seriously have some amazing foster parents in our program!!)... A shelter who cared enough to help us round them up - they would text or call us as soon as another fitting the description was picked up or surrendered to them.. A wonderful vet clinic who has seen us at the drop of a ... (Read More)dime every time we have gotten a call that another one from this group was found (three were dumped on the side of busy roads throughout Valencia County - Los Chavez, Belen, and Tome and one was taken to the shelter).. We now have 4 dogs in treatment for demodex and as you scroll through the photos on our facebook page you will see how much they have changed.. Hermione was the worse -- she was scabbed over and full of infection, she could barely move, and Melba at The Canine Bungalow was very worried she wouldn't make it... She checked on her constantly -- putting her food and water and meds in the bed with her so she didn't have to get up (she was in so much pain she could barely move).. Thank you to those who have donated for their care-- this is where your money goes when you donate-- dogs like this who just need a little more time, care, and love.. We have 2 girls Hermione and Bellatrix and 2 boys Draco and Lucius.. Temperament- Very sweet, playful, and happy. Loves everyone- would be perfect for taking out in public, hanging out, and meeting new people.. Energy Level- Higher level energy- very athletic. Other Dogs/Cats- He loves to play chase and wrestle with the other dogs. Would be a great hiking, biking, or jogging partner. He is great with the cats, irritating as he thinks they love him as much as he love them, but gentle.. House trained- He uses a dog door This very happy energetic boy would make a wonderful addition to any energetic family wanting a sweet, loving, athletic boy to join their family. He loves attention, playing, and cuddling with his loved ones- though he is one of those dogs that is almost always going and has a hard time actually lying down as he thinks everyone needs attention.. We will be updating his photos soon-- he and Hermione in foster with Melba at the Canine Bungalow so I know they have grown their hair in but haven't had a chance to re-do their photos.. But will do soon.. Papillons are active, playful, and full of personality. Papillons do well with older children and cats with whom they are socialized, but can sometimes be combative with other dogs. Housebreaking a Papillon may require patience. Papillons love to play outside, and can be protective and territorial. This breed does best with a yard, but some Papillons adapt fine to urban apartment life.

Papillon is French for butterfly. Papillon dogs get their name because of the butterfly-like shape of their ears. Papillons are depicted in Italian frescoes from the Renaissance. Papillons are a very old European breed that has been around for over 700 years. A myth exists that Marie Antoinette carried her Papillon on her way to the guillotine.
